THE PROTEST SEASON IS UNDERWAY

Now is the time to protest your property value for the 2024 tax year if you believe the current assessment is not fair or equitable. To begin the process, please click here to protest your assessment.  Property values cannot be appealed or changed after the end of open inspection on May 20.

New assessment notices have been mailed to all property owners in Fayette County whose assessments increased in 2024 from the prior year.  However, you do not have to receive an assessment notice in order to discuss or question the assessed value of your property, but you must start the conversation prior to the end of the protest period. To learn more, visit the Assessments and Appeals page.

If an agreement on value is not reached with the PVA Office, you may appeal to the Local Board of Tax Appeals through the Fayette County Clerk’s Office no later than Wednesday, May 22, 2024 (KRS133.045). For more information, contact the Clerk’s Office at (859)253-3344 ext.  3 or via email at [email protected].  Appeals filed by a paid representative must include a letter of authorization from the property owner.

If you do not agree with the decision of the local board then you have the right to appeal to the Kentucky Board of Tax Appeals and ultimately to the Circuit Court.
