343 S Broadway – People’s Bank

Efforts to preserve the mid-century modern former People’s Bank building on South Broadway, known for its zigzag roofline and turquoise colored glazed brick, have failed and the building was razed today. Local preservationists worked for more than two years in an effort to relocate the structure. The property owners, Langley Properties, allowed the building to remain standing as along as possible without delaying their development plans for the southwest corner of South Broadway and High Street.

Honeywood, an American Bistro, the much anticipated new restaurant by five-time James Beard nominated chef Ouita Michel, opened Wednesday at The Summit.

100 Valvoline Way – Valvoline Headquarters

Valvoline, which was spun off from Ashland Oil in an IPO late last year, dedicated its new world headquarters at 100 Valvoline Way today. Valvoline and Ashland Oil have called Lexington home for over three decades and employ over 1,100 Kentuckians.

882 East High Street – Prissy Peach

, a Winchester-based clothing boutique, will open its second location at 882 E. High St., the  on March 24. Occupying one of Lexington’s most iconic retail spaces, Prissy Peach’s new location will feature womenswear staples, along with a small curated selection of urban menswear. 

750 East New Circle Road – Eastland Lanes

, a Lexington staple since 1966, will be for the final time on June 1, 2017. Danny Collins, president of Collins Bowling Centers, released a statement last Sunday citing increased operating and maintenance costs as the reason behind the closure. , Lexington’s final bowling alley and another Collins Bowling Centers venue, will remain open.

339 Blackburn Avenue – Cowgill Partners

Lexington’s Urban County Council recently approved a zone change near the intersection of , clearing the way for a new four-story apartment building. Previously a light industrial zone, the site is within walking distance to popular Jefferson St. corridor. The developer of the proposed property, , plans to offer .

is now open to the public, becoming one of the first businesses to launch at , a high profile commercial development at the intersection of Man O’ War Blvd. and Nicholasville Rd. Featuring upscale American cuisine, the restaurant offers patrons a menu that is 95% made from scratch and emphasizes wood-fired preparation techniques.

The former location of the Romany Kroger will soon open as an upscale grocery store. Located at , this will be the 12 IGA location and it will be designed differently from its Eastern Kentucky locations to fit the needs of the area.
